 New Year's Traditional French Dance - to Salmanazar - https://martincedric.jimdo.com/groupes/salmanazar - Cédric Martin, tireless virtuoso of the diatonic accordeon, is returning again to Stamford Arts Centre - Salmanazar, meaning a very large bottle of champagne, is the latest new French dance band of Cedric Martin - The band includes two internationally acclaimed players with Philippe Laussine on the electric hurdy-gurdy and Sébastien Benoît on giant French bagpipes and whistles - These are some of the best traditional musicians in France. This new trio of experienced musicians play very danceable and traditional French music exploring the roots of their respective instruments and giving them a new lively dimension - just the thing to lift the spirits and move the limbs into the New Year! - Everyone welcome, with or without partners, as beginners will be given a gentle introduction to the simple social and couple dances, and experienced dance partners will always be on hand. Cedric has played here for many years with the duos Expire and Moussaka.   WHITTLESEA STRAW BEAR Whittlesea Straw Bear Festival 14 + 15 January 2022 - Following their pandemic enforced virtual festival in 2021, the Strawbearers have decided to organise a hybrid festival in 2022. This will follow the following reduced programme: -

SATURDAY 15th

Procession from the Manor Leisure Centre leaving at 10.30 am to the Market Place followed by a reduced number of invited dance teams. Perambulation of bears and dance teams around the town centre with a grand finale on the Market Place at approx. 15.00 hrs.  In addition to the dancing on the street there will be story telling sessions in Queen Street Methodist/United Reformed Church between 12.00, 13.00 and 14.00.
