The Oscar Preston Memorial Trophy

An annual competition to encourage solo traditional singing.
All welcome. Come and enjoy hearing some of the finest local traditional singers compete for the trophy. The evening will conclude with a BIG SING of chorus songs.
 
The Competition - 2011
Thursday, 17th November 2011, at 8pm, in the public bar of The Red Lion pub, 48 King Street, in West Deeping, Peterborough, PE6 9HP, courtesy of the Landlord, Mr Ged Dempsey.
 
Solo singers are invited to compete for this trophy by the singing of a traditional folk song (or a song composed in a traditional style - which just means suitable to be sung in an acoustic, non-amplified setting).
 
Entrants who need accompaniment must play their own instrument. It must be a solo performance.
The entrant must perform a song from memory and not rely on a prompt from written or printed text.
 
The winner to be decided upon by votes cast by the other entrants.
The winner shall hold the very handsome trophy for one year.
The Competition is sponsored by ‘Traditional Music & Song at The Barn in Baston’.
Prospective entrants ( maximum 12 ) must indicate their choice of song to Alan or Maggie Wood,
(01778 560497 or by e.mail a.wood571@btinternet.com ) by Thursday, 10th November 2011.
 
The Voting
Only entrants to the competition will be entitled to vote.
Entrants must be present to hear all competing performances in order for their votes to be valid.
Each entrant will be able to cast a total of 5 votes.
3 votes is the maximum that you can allocated to one contestant.
Entrants will not be able to allocate any votes to themselves.
