'All my life's buried here' - An independent production, it is the first film ever to tell the story of this gifted young composer, folk song collector and dancer who was cut down in his prime on the Somme in 1916. Inspired by his contemporaries Cecil Sharp and Ralph Vaughan Williams, George Butterworth travelled extensively throughout rural England in the years before 1914 collecting traditional songs and dances from the people he met. In Sussex in 1907 he came across the folk song 'Banks of Green Willow', which inspired Butterworth to write his now famous orchestral work of the same name. His involvement in folk song and dance activities are covered in detail in the documentary, using archival materials never before seen on film. The documentary features exclusive new live performances of Butterworth's 'Songs from a Shropshire Lad' by Roderick Williams with Iain Burnside, and the classic orchestral recordings of Butterworths music by the London Philharmonic under the conductor Sir Adrian Boult.  There is music by traditional singers including Peta Webb, Laura Smyth & Ted Kemp and The Wilsons, as well as classic recordings by The Copper Family, May Bradley, Walter Pardon, Gordon Hall and William 'Merry' Kimber - 5pm - Stamford Arts Centre, St Mary's St, Stamford, PE9 2DL - 01780 763203
