WassailA wassail is an old English custom to awaken the fruit trees, drive away any evil spirits and encourage the trees to bear more fruit in the autumn, by singing, making lots of noise, and toasting them.  Bourne Borderers will once again be helping with the event, which last year was enjoyed by all.  The Borderers will be dancing and playing, and performing their mummers play, and there will be other musicians, to entertain us, in between all the toasting! Everyone is welcome (although I would suggest perhaps not dogs as it will be getting dark and very noisy!).  It is ideal for children as we need lots of noise - so bring pots and pans and wooden spoons or whistles or bells, and remember to wrap up warmly and bring a torch or lantern to light your way. There will also be a refreshment stall with mulled cider and apple juice, and homemade cakes - 4.30pm -  the Bourne Community Orchard is situated off Beech Avenue, in Bourne, where the old Forest Office used to be.

Miranda Sykes http://www.mirandasykes.com/# - in concert - Miranda Sykes, the acclaimed singer and bassist with ‘Show of Hands’ is returning to her roots. After a career spanning over 20 years, during which time she has played with many of the top musicians and singers within the folk world, she will be touring as she started out: one woman, one bass, and one guitar. Borrowed Places is a project that draws its inspiration primarily from the songs and landscapes of her native Lincolnshire but seen through the eyes of someone who has lived away for many years. The themes are not specific; the land changes, it grows, it shrinks, it adapts and it resists but most of all it lives and breathes. With her sensational voice, and accompanying herself, Miranda interprets the soul of the land and takes her audience on a journey that resonates with us all, wherever we live and it is one you won’t want to miss - The evening will take the form of a house concert - there will be a cash bar but you will also be offered a complimentary drink and interval snacks. Although there's no formal admission charge, we think you might like to make a donation of £8 - cheap at the price! Ring 01406 425506 to reserve your seat. 8pm start - Welland Yacht Club, River bank, Spalding, PE11 3AA (follow Cradge Bank, next to BP station)
