Pennyless -  in a quiet English place - folk trio of fiddle, flute and guitar will be performing in the intimate setting of St. Botolph’s Barn in Helpston, Northants - here in this village was born John Clare, peasant poet, thinker, walker, lover and champion of the countryside as well as collector of traditional folk tunes - Pennyless have a varied set of instrumental English folk tunes and songs, and will be playing original material from their two albums “In Spring and In Blue” and “The Turning of My Days” - inspiration for their music comes from a love of our countryside and all the people in it- past and present- and many songs have been written whilst in the woods and fields of Lincolnshire - fast and furious old-timey fiddle tunes from America and traditional Irish jigs and reels also sneak their way into the repertoire – with Penny on violin, Les on Guitar and Graham on flute, whistle, djembe, cajon, xaphoon and melodica - a great opportunity to hear their music unplugged and quietly close at hand, in the old gaol house of St. Botolph’s Barn, next to The Exeter Arms and hard-by the church yard where the grave of John Clare lies - doors open 7pm, 7.30pm start, 10pm finish - tickets £5 including a glass of wine, or tea/coffee - all proceeds to The John Clare Society & St Botolph's Church - no tickets available on the door; obtain in advance from the Annakinn Gallery, West St, Helpston or 07875 192054 or email
